Platform power

A platform is powerful when it is the path everyone else takes. That power has to sit inside the institution, or it sits over it.

A platform becomes powerful by being the easiest way to do the work. Not by decree. People use it because the alternative is slower, riskier, or lonely. That is the power: the default path.

Held inside the institution, that power is a service. The teams who build on it move faster because they do not each have to invent the same road. Held outside, rented from a company that does not share the institution's future, the same power is a leash. Every decision becomes a little more expensive to reverse.

The work is to decide which platforms this institution will own, which it will use, and which it will not let become the place it actually lives. A platform you do not control will still shape the work. It will just do so for someone else's reasons.
